Jaime's first thoughts

Yesterday was a crazy, frightening and wonderful day. It's difficult to figure out where to start. But if you know us at all, everything is a wild adventure, so try to imagine Dad in the emergency room in immense pain waiting for the meds to kick in and Johnathan and Mama hovering over his blackberry watching youtube videos and howling to pass the time. Dad was cracking jokes like a stand-up comedian anytime any medical personnel would come into do some new procedure. They probably thought we were all nuts!

We slept about an hour when they put him in a regular room and then off to surgery we went around 6 a.m. The surgery lasted two hours and when the surgeon came in to consult with us, colon cancer was the last thing we were expecting to hear. What in the world??  So here we are.  The three of us gave each other high fives after the surgeon left the room for taking it so well. :O) We closed the doors. called Scott and had a good little cry before heading back to dad's room to wait.

Our family and friends started arriving soon after dad got back to his room and we were so grateful to see everyone. Although, he wasn't awake for some of them early on, by the end of the day he was awake and chatting rather slowly in between cat naps (sometimes in mid-stream! :O)) Lots of meds!

As Scott said, we'll learn more tomorrow. Thanks for all of the calls and plants and flowers, and prayer and love!  We feel it....literally.

  1. Jamie-

It made me laugh at your depiction of the family scene. We really are family. We're praying for you in Louisiana and wish we could give you a great big hug.
